Nobody seemed to understand the problem... the two rocks DO NOT COLLIDE, it simply says you can subtract the speeds to get the relative speed one one rocket viewed from someone who would be on the other rocket. It's like if you go at 30mph in a car, nothing in the car moves from you point of view because everything goes at the same speed (30-30=0 so stationary) but another car going at 30mph in the opposite direction will seem to go at 60mph (30 - (-30) = 60). The point is, special relativity explains you can't do that when objects move at really high speed and the formula is arranged so the relative speed can't go further than the speed of light.

Yeah, well, relativistic speeds can not be added in that way.
For the observer, it looks like they both are moving at 0.9999 c towards each other, but they still both move at below light speed. When seen from one of the spacecrafts, the other one is not closing in at almost 2 c, but actually at around 0.999999995 c
