Light years is time, you troll. stop trolling us!

@#9335: We have Quantum Computing, its just that the data disappears whenever we look at it.

Stick is travelling the distance between its end and the person to puke, not a lightyear.

anonoymouse pwnd

HAHA

kill the jews especially the younglings they are the future bacillus

this is just pure stupid and not even worth being called a troll.
even if the stick has the size of your penis ... you instantly are being touched when you are being touched ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
thats all the pic says

Sigh. Movement of a long stick would be caused by the transfer of energy from one constituent particle to the next, which cannot happen faster than c. No nobel prize for anyone. Information does not travel faster than light.

I'll poke you with something, just pretend it's a stick

that doesnt work at all
however i recomend keep poking people with sticks

20 people can't travel to one light year away with a one light year long stick.

if the stick travelled at the speed of light its mass would become infinite and cause a black hole.
umad, troll?

no one was talking about propelling this stick at the speed of light, foool.

You would feel the poke instantly because it doesn't have to go a lightyear to feel it.
It would already be there.

the stick doesn't move instantly you troll.

information can travel faster than light not the stick unless a complete monster like abrham lincoiln 300s thzgt shit into an midget

@#12452
U MAD?

@#13034 Actually, it's not. One light year is the distance light travels in one Earth year

@#14677 no. light-year is a measurement of distance. it is the distance light travels in one year. it is about 9 trillion kilometers.

A LIGHTYEAR IS THE DISTANCE LIGHT COVERS IN A EARTH YEAR. I thinks its either 60tril, 1 tril, or 60bil or 1 bil i forgot :L ANYWAY ITS TROLLSCIENCE SO JUST RIDE A DOLPHIN TO SPACE. Umad?

no because the light will recah the target faster then the other edge of the stick >_> but mass is faster than light

this only works if there isn't a limbo competition

previous comment makes me lol

previous comment is incorrect. it is the distance light travels in a year. ****ing tard.

a light year is a measurement of distance, not time.

*sigh* Sticks aren't rigid. The impulse will probably travel down the stick at roughly the speed of sound.

Think similar to a slinky--stretch it out between you and your friend and give it a push. It doesn't reach your friend immediately.

a light year is a measurement of how long it takes your mom to lose any weight

It isn't moving faster than the speed of light, you're just using a long rod. Common sense.

a light year is a measurment of time, not distance.

REALLY? I wonder how long that is??

About 27% less seconds than in a typical year.

A Light year is a mesurement of distance wich takes light one year to travel, simple

If this is correct, then it means that it would work for any stick, not JUST a 1-light-year one. Because a half would take a half of a year, a fourth a fourth, and an nth an equal nth. So no.

IN SACE IN KACE

IN SACE IN KACE

a stick is rigid, id say
I dont know what kind of sticks you have in your planet

@ October 5th

IP banned for utter fail

@Admin

IP banned for utter faggotry

Done! 202.8.228.180 was a fag

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
TAKE THAT COMMUNISTS

ill poke you with my long stick

Well...
I've been thinking about this shit and I can only say that it may make sense, it could be used to FTL information transfer.
The stick wouln't move FTL of course, but information may.

According to a very ****ed and late convo on IRC with a friend, a one light year long stick made with http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bucky_balls (only 1 buckey ball width), would require 3N of energy in order to accelerate from static to... what was it? 1mm/s?
Buckey balls are a nice option because of rigidness...

Now you could use the movement of the stick to transfer information in a simple way, think of morse code and eventually binary code.

Even if the stick is not 100% rigid, it may work.
I want my nobel prize now.

needs a sloopy arms

GFFDRGRN

lol i actually wondered about this as a kid before knowing that atoms are held together by electromagnetism and aren't rigid per se

i love the philosophical face on the guy on the left

actually a light year is a measurement of brightness
so instead of making a spaceship
give michal J fox a lightswitch
achive interstealar travel
problem newtonfags?

Classic!

Holy fuck. Now that I think about this.. wtf. if something was even longer than a light year.. would it reach something before light does?!??! SOME ONE MAKE A TROLL OUT OF THAT

@#5279 heh ballz

Actually, it would take 90,000 years to poke him. The wood would have the ripples of shock waves on the push move at the speed of sound, so he would not feel it immediately, you freaking moron.

MOron
u stupid?
never mind i nswered my own qustion

The end of the stIck is closer, and it moves slower, so that's no faster than the speed of light.

@#13034 wow, you are really stupid aren't you

@#33262 you are exeptionally right

Ppl, the sticks info travels roughly the speed of sound, and the end of the stick is poking him, not the one lightyear away end that you are holding.

Hop on the stick for time travel

@#13034 A light year is a unit of length defined as the distance light can travel in a year. Common misconception, given that it includes the word "year."

Feeling is not a physical thing

How can you even get a stick that long
